The series, based on the novel by Alice Feeney, which was published in 2020, dropped on the streaming service on Jan. 8th, 2026, and it’s as dramatic and engaging as the platform’s other originals. Netflix released some big thrillers in 2025, from the creepy The Beast in Me to the soap opera-esque The Hunting Wives, and 2026 looks to be just as promising.

Whether it’s the complicated families in the TV adaptations of Harlan Coben’s popular novels or the charming serial killer at the heart of You, Netflix’s thrillers always have well-written, interesting characters. Along with Coben’s Run Away, which dropped on the platform on January 1st , His & Hers is one of Netflix’s most intriguing new releases.

His & Hers will appeal to anyone who loves complex characters and the always intriguing premise of a small town murder. Married couple Anna (Tessa Thompson) and Jack (Jon Bernthal) are dealing with relationship problems, and Anna, who was a news anchor, has been living in Atlanta, Georgia. Anna goes back to her hometown of Dahlonega when she finds out about a murder, which means seeing Jack again, who stayed behind when she left.

Just like The Beast in Me focuses on whether Nile (Matthew Rhys) killed his wife Madison, His & Hers makes viewers think that either Anna or Jack committed murder. The series also makes it clear that something wild will likely be revealed by the final episode. After all, no thriller can be considered a success without a few shocking reveals and a fantastic finale.

The His & Hers trailer quickly shares the tough dynamic between Anna and Jack, who stare intensely at each other in every scene and clearly have a lot of heavy emotions to work through. As Jack, who is a detective, gives a press conference about the dead body that was found, Anna, who is standing in a crowd of journalists, asks, “Is it true you knew her?” When his co-worker asks, “What was with that reporter?” he responds, “That’s my wife.” Jack is unsure about Anna, too, and she tells him in one scene that she didn’t kill the victim, either.

Although there are some great thrillers with many seasons, His & Hers proves that sometimes, a fascinating and complete story can be told in just six episodes. The series also has some engaging supporting characters, including news anchor Lexy (Rebecca Rittenhouse) and Zoe (Marin Ireland), a woman with whom Jack lives. However, Anna and Jack are definitely the most interesting characters. If they weren’t married and were simply a journalist and a detective looking into a murder, the show wouldn’t be nearly as compelling. Their shared history and how well they know each other make them particularly fun to watch. Their marital status also allows His & Hers to avoid the thriller trope of two annoyed detectives who hate each other but must work together, which can sometimes be stale and tired.

It’s also great seeing Bernthal and Thompson onscreen together. While Thompson has appeared in several TV thrillers (such as Veronica Mars and the forgotten 2007 series Hidden Palms), Bernthal has had roles in a diverse range of TV shows, from the dark comedy The Bear to AMC’s horror/zombie apocalypse hit The Walking Dead. But, of course, Bernthal is best known for playing The Punisher. The adaptation of Alice Feeney’s novel needed the perfect leads, and they’re flawless here.

His & Hers explores questions about love, marriage, guilt, and innocence, and since all six episodes are out now, Anna and Jack’s story can easily be watched in a single weekend.
