Kash Patel’s girlfriend sang the national anthem at the Great American State Fair, but viewers at home were left questioning the performance.

Alexis Wilkins, 27, performed during the opening ceremony of the Freedom 250 event in Washington, D.C., which also saw Donald Trump deliver a speech boasting about what he sees as his accomplishments. Alexis wore a white pantsuit for the performance and was supported by her FBI director boyfriend.

A clip of Alexis’ performance aired live on Fox News, but viewers were distracted by the sound issues. The country singer had been forced to defend her performance at the Freedom 250 event after being accused of getting the gig because of who her partner is.

Responding to Alexis singing the national anthem on X, viewers noticed she was being drowned out by her backing band. One person questioned, “Why is the band drowning her out. So bad.”

Another Fox News viewer responded, “That’s what happens when a singer has pitch problems. The conductor will have the band play louder to drown the singer out…so it hopefully doesn’t sound to bad!!!!!”

Other people were critical of Alexis’ lack of energy during the performance, with one X user saying, “I think we’ve discovered the vocal equivalent of a bowl of potato salad with raisins in it. It’s got the energy of a senior who forced her way into the freshman talent show because she couldn’t get into choir even though she auditioned every year.”

Someone else posted, “Ok, she gave it a shot.. pitchy though,” as a fifth critic agreed, “It was very meh. A thousand others could have really brought it.”

They sarcastically added, “Just remember, she got the job on her own merit, by being a successful country music vocalist. Of course, she is the only one making that claim.” Another person jokingly commented, “Alexa, please cancel my subscription to ears.”

Alexis’ appearance at the Freedom 250 event comes after she was forced to speak out against criticism to her performance. Alexis said she was “honored” to be taking part in the rally, but was met with accusations she was booked for the gig only because she’s dating the director of the FBI.

One X user questioned, “Is this parody or are they actually letting the Israeli honeypot perform?” Another person said, “Are you sure you want to be in the history books on this one? There are reasons why no one else is doing this, notably conservative country stars. There are certainly enough of those to go around,” before sarcastically adding, “I’m sure you got this gig purely on talent though.”

One person even asked, “Does having the FBI director’s girlfriend getting paid by the taxpayers to perform violate federal ethics laws?” It was this comment which seemed to anger Wilkins the most, as she shared a screenshot of the post and issued a statement.

“Let’s just get a few things straight, because this is long overdue,” the country singer fumed. “1. I have been a country music artist for years now. I have had a successful career in both music and commentary/strategy.

“People don’t get to negate that for clicks or headlines. I was invited to sing this anthem on my own accord, as I have been many other places throughout my career.”

Wilkins then said she is “not accepting payment for this great honor,” before adding, “The Freedom250 entire celebration is on a fundraising arm; neither UFC nor any National Mall celebrations are “taxpayer funded” (you would think, as a journalist, this would be something she would know or at least look into).”

Concluding her rant, the musician said, “I’m no longer accepting false narratives and total sham accusations that diminish my hard work and earned accomplishments, so please expect this kind of response to continue.”
