The Gist

  • Meghan Markle is reportedly feeling a “lot of sadness” following her family’s trip to the U.K.

  • The Duchess of Sussex and her kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, visited the U.K. for the first time since 2022 to meet with King Charles and Queen Camilla.

  • However, Prince Harry arrived in London solo on July 4 after a public back-and-forth about security.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, recently returned to the U.K. for a long-awaited private meeting with King Charles and Queen Camilla—but their July 10 trip across the pond was reportedly a bittersweet one for the As Ever founder. Per People, an inside source claims Meghan has a “lot of sadness” following the Sussexes’ turbulent first visit with the royal family in four years.

Harry’s team first announced his plans to bring his wife and kids to the U.K. in June, but long-running security concerns quickly threatened to derail the whole trip. Per People, Meghan, their 7-year-old son, and 5-year-old daughter were originally expected to be by Harry’s side as he stepped out at different events amid the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games. However, the publication reported that when Harry found out that he and his family would not receive police protection during their visit, he decided to fly to London solo.

Meghan, Archie, and Lilibet later flew in separately and met with Charles and Camilla at their private Highgrove House residence in the countryside—a promising olive branch after the royal family’s years-long rift with Harry and Meghan.

However, a source who knows the couple told People that the unexpected change in plans put a damper on the experience for Meghan, who was unable to join her husband at any of his scheduled public appearances.

The source reported that the former Suits star felt “humiliated” watching the family’s security setbacks play out in real time publicly. Another insider added that Meghan has “a lot of sadness” over how their visit went, as she “is very supportive” of Harry and hoped to be by his side during his various 2027 Invictus Games events as well as charity appearances for WellChild and Scotty’s Little Soldiers.

Despite the stressful aspects of the trip, a third source claimed that Meghan stays out of interactions with the royals and trusts Harry to do what’s best for their family. They noted, “She always lets him lead.”
