Landman Season 3 Is Taking Shape With A Major New Arrival — And Season 2’s Explosive Ending Has Completely Changed Tommy Norris’ Future

Landman is officially moving forward with Season 3, and the next chapter of Taylor Sheridan’s oil drama is already beginning to take shape after a finale that dramatically changed Tommy Norris’ future.

Production is returning with Billy Bob Thornton leading the series once again, while Lioness star Michael Kelly has become one of the biggest new additions to the cast.

Kelly will play William Crockett, described as the leader of the world’s largest oil management firm — a powerful new figure whose arrival could significantly expand the business conflicts surrounding Tommy and his family.

And after Season 2 ended with Tommy launching a new company while entering into a dangerous partnership with Gallino, there is plenty waiting to be resolved.

Michael Kelly Is Joining Landman Season 3

Kelly’s new character sounds perfectly suited to the high-stakes world of Landman.

William Crockett is described as “the leader of the largest oil management firm in the world” and a “titan of industry.”

“Everything about him exudes efficiency and money,” the character description adds.

Kelly is already familiar to Sheridan audiences through Lioness, but his move into Landman is particularly notable because he had previously made no secret of how much he wanted to be part of the series.

Speaking to TV Insider while discussing Lioness Season 3, Kelly enthusiastically praised the show and its cast.

“If there’s anything I could do in that world, I would lose my mind,” he said.

“I just love that show so much. I love Billy Bob [Thornton] and Sam [Elliott] and Andy Garcia. Are you sh***ing me? That show is, my wife and I eat it up. I love it so much.”

Now he has his opportunity.

Exactly how Crockett becomes involved with Tommy, Gallino and the newly established Norris operation remains to be seen, but his position at the top of the oil industry immediately makes him a potentially important player.

Paramount+ Had An Easy Decision On Season 3

Landman‘s third season was officially confirmed by Paramount+ on December 5 following enormous growth for the series.

According to the streamer, the Season 2 premiere generated 9.2 million streams during its first two days.

That represented a 262% increase over the Season 1 premiere and made it the biggest debut for a Paramount+ original at the time.

Thornton has also indicated that Tommy Norris could remain on television well beyond Season 3.

The actor previously told USA Today that his contract covers “four or five years.”

That does not guarantee the series will necessarily run that long, but it makes clear that there is room for Tommy’s story to continue if the audience remains interested.

Season 2 Completely Changed Tommy Norris’ Position

Season 3 has plenty to deal with after the upheaval of the previous episodes.

Following the death of her husband, Cami, played by Demi Moore, took control of M-Tex.

She quickly discovered that inheriting the company also meant inheriting serious financial problems that had been hidden beneath the surface.

Her relationship with Tommy deteriorated as they disagreed over how the crisis should be handled.

Eventually, Cami fired him.

For a character who had spent so much of Landman operating inside M-Tex’s world, Tommy suddenly found himself forced to build something different.

The finale delivered exactly that.

Rather than simply finding another position, Tommy established a new company owned and operated by the Norris family.

There was just one extremely dangerous complication.

Gallino is involved.

Tommy’s New Partner Could Become His Biggest Problem

Andy Garcia’s Gallino became increasingly important during Season 2, particularly through Cooper Norris’ storyline.

Cooper experienced a remarkable change in fortunes after striking oil on his new leases.

But his success came with a disturbing revelation: the person financing him was Gallino, a drug kingpin.

By the finale, that connection had grown into something potentially much more dangerous for the entire Norris family.

Tommy’s new business now has Gallino as a partner.

It creates an intriguing foundation for Season 3.

Tommy may finally have a company carrying his family’s name, but the independence he appears to have gained comes attached to a man capable of bringing an entirely different level of risk into their lives.

The addition of William Crockett now introduces another powerful figure into that equation.

Cooper And Ariana Have Unfinished Business

The business story was only one part of an eventful second season.

Cooper, played by Jacob Lofland, went through dramatic professional and personal changes.

Alongside the discovery of oil and the truth about Gallino’s involvement, his relationship with Ariana, played by Paulina Chávez, went through a breakup before eventually moving toward an engagement.

Ariana also experienced a major trauma, leaving their story with significant emotional consequences heading into the next season.

Elsewhere, Angela struggled with the realization that Ainsley was moving into another stage of her life as she prepared for college.

Season 2 also expanded Tommy’s family history with the introduction of his father, T.L., played by Sam Elliott.

All of those relationships now exist alongside the newly created Norris family business, potentially bringing the show’s family and oil-industry storylines even closer together.

The Creators Believe There Is Plenty Of Story Left

Series co-creator Christian Wallace, who developed Landman with Sheridan, has already suggested that the drama has barely explored the possibilities of its world.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Wallace described Season 2 as “still just skimming the surface.”

“Our cast has added so much depth to the characters,” he said. “They know them so well now that they make it easy to tell an entertaining story.”

Wallace also indicated that he would be happy to continue for as long as the series remains creatively worthwhile.

“As long as everyone’s still having fun and the story is continuing in a worthwhile way, then, sure, I’d love for it to go as long as the story permits,” he said. “There’s a lot of runway left.”

The Season 2 finale certainly provided that runway.

Landman Season 3 Could Arrive Sooner Than Expected

An official Season 3 premiere date has not yet been announced.

Wallace previously suggested the goal was to maintain approximately the same production rhythm that separated the first two seasons.

“We hate to make people wait too long,” he explained, adding that the cast and crew were eager to return.

A more recent update suggests the turnaround could potentially be even faster.

Executive producer Stephen Kay revealed that post-production is already happening alongside filming.

“We’re cutting while we’re shooting, so it’ll, hopefully, be out soon,” he said during The Hollywood Reporter‘s Directors in Focus event.

Thornton had also confirmed that production on the new season would begin in Texas in August.

Season 3 Has A Very Different Landman Waiting For Fans

The biggest reason to watch Season 3 may ultimately be how dramatically the finale reset Tommy’s position.

He is no longer simply the man trying to solve M-Tex’s endless problems.

Cami has fired him.

The Norris family has its own operation.

Cooper has oil.

Gallino has become a business partner.

And now William Crockett, one of the most powerful figures imaginable within the oil industry, is entering the story.

That gives Landman a considerably different board to play with when it returns.

After spending two seasons navigating other people’s fortunes, disasters and decisions, Tommy Norris is heading into Season 3 with something carrying his own family’s name — but the people surrounding that new venture could make independence more dangerous than anything he faced at M-Tex.
