Scotty McCreery’s 3-Year-Old Son Steals the Spotlight With Sweet Onstage Duet
Scotty McCreery had a very special guest join him onstage in Oklahoma City: his 3-year-old son, Avery.
During McCreery’s opening set for Cody Johnson at Paycom Center, the country singer brought the toddler into the spotlight for an unexpectedly adorable father-son duet. Avery may have only sung one line, but he quickly became one of the most memorable parts of the night.
The family moment came as McCreery performed his hit “Cab in a Solo.” Before bringing Avery out, McCreery walked toward the side of the stage to meet his son. Avery then took his dad’s hand and confidently walked with him toward center stage.

Once they reached the middle of the stage, McCreery crouched down to Avery’s height and continued performing the song.
As the performance approached its final moments, McCreery turned to his son and asked, “Want to sing it, buddy?”
Avery was ready.
The 3-year-old confidently sang the closing line of the song as his father encouraged him, earning a warm reaction from the Oklahoma City crowd. The moment gave fans a glimpse of McCreery’s life as both a country star and a dad, with his young son looking perfectly comfortable under the stage lights.
McCreery then delivered the perfect sign-off for the impromptu duet.
“It’s bedtime, y’all,” he joked before taking Avery by the hand and leading him offstage.
The appearance was especially fitting for Avery, who has already made appearances alongside his father during McCreery’s performances. McCreery and his wife, Gabi, also have a younger son, Oliver, who will turn one in September.
A Family Moment During a Career Milestone
The Oklahoma City performance arrived shortly after the release of McCreery’s latest album, 15, a project that looks back on the first 15 years of his recording career.
Released July 17, 15 was created to commemorate the anniversary of McCreery’s American Idol victory. The retrospective collection brings together nine of his hits and four new recordings, giving the singer an opportunity to reflect on the career he has built since winning Season 10 of the show.
For McCreery, the album is about more than revisiting old songs. It represents a chance to look at how much his life has changed since he first stepped onto the American Idol stage.
“15 is looking back on where I started, how young I was, where I’ve come, family I’ve got back home, the family I have on the road with me, and the family I have in Nashville,” McCreery told Music Mayhem. “A lot’s happened in 15 years that I’m very proud of.”
That sense of reflection also shaped the way McCreery approached the album. After spending so much of his career focused on what comes next, he said he wanted to take a moment to appreciate the road that brought him here.
“I think sometimes it’s good to stop, smell the roses, and just appreciate where you’re at, keep working to keep moving forward,” he said. “But I think it’s such a go, go, go world. Always new, new, new, and more, more, more. I think sometimes it’s good to stop and just appreciate where you’ve been. So that’s what I’m doing with 15.”
Looking Ahead After 15 Years
While 15 gives McCreery a chance to celebrate his past, the singer remains focused on what comes next.
His goal is to continue creating music that can become part of important moments in his listeners’ lives, whether they are celebrating, spending a night out, attending a wedding or dealing with a difficult loss.
McCreery told Music Mayhem that he “just wants to keep making music that impacts people in a positive way and helps them enjoy a night out on the town, a party night, helps them enjoy their wedding day, helps them get through a loss.”
And as he looks toward the next 15 years, McCreery hopes that connection with his audience remains at the heart of his career.
“In 15 years, I hope that’s still happening,” he said. “I hope I’m writing my best songs yet. I hope we’re out there on the road still seeing the fans, still playing country music.”
For now, one of his most memorable recent performances came with an unexpected duet partner who needed no elaborate introduction: his son Avery, holding his dad’s hand and taking the stage for a single line of “Cab in a Solo.”
