Prince William’s love for Wimbledon is a tradition he shares with his late mother, Princess Diana.

The Prince of Wales first accompanied Diana to the Royal Box — the invite-only suite located inside Centre Court — for the 1991 women’s singles final. His love for tennis is something he shares with his wife, Kate Middleton, who’s an avid tennis player; the two made their Wimbledon debut as a couple in 2011, just two months after their wedding.

Five years later in 2016, Kate became the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC), taking the role over from Queen Elizabeth following her 90th birthday.

Today, the couple carry on the summer sport tradition with their two older children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, who made their Wimbledon debuts in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

Here are eight photos of royal children attending the Wimbledon tennis tournament, including Prince William and his kids.

In 1991, Prince William made his Wimbledon debut at 9 years old, attending the women’s singles final alongside his mother, Princess Diana. The pair watched from the front row of the prestigious Royal Box at Centre Court as Steffi Graf defeated Gabriela Sabatini.

For the special milestone, young Prince William dressed in a suit and tie, while the Princess of Wales wore a purple blazer with a white pleated skirt.

Over three decades after making his Wimbledon debut, Prince William accompanied his older son, Prince George, to his first Wimbledon in 2022. The royal father-son duo scored prime seats in the esteemed Royal Box for the men’s singles final, watching Novak Djokovic defeated Nick Kyrgios at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

Similar to his father, Prince George was about to turn 9 years old at the time of his Wimbledon debut.

In 2023, Princess Charlotte joined her parents and older brother at Wimbledon for the men’s singles final, where they watched Carlos Alcaraz win his first Wimbledon title, beating Djokovic. Having recently turned 8 years old, she was nearly a year younger than Prince George was when he made his Wimbledon debut.
