Adam Remsen Finally Revealed the Unusual Ritual He Repeats Before Every ‘Jeopardy!’ Game — And Fans Are Divided Over Whether It’s Superstition or Secret Strategy. What first seemed like an amusing personal habit has sparked a surprising debate, with viewers wondering if the routine played a bigger role in his winning streak than anyone realized. Sometimes the smallest traditions become the biggest talking points once a champion starts winning.

Everyone has their quirks! Eight-day Jeopardy! champion Adam Remsen explained why he does a certain gesture at the beginning of each show after fans pointed it out online.

Remsen, from Memphis, Tennessee, always taps his left jacket pocket when his name is being introduced at the beginning of the show and smiles into the camera. Some people wave or smile really big, some throw their hands up, and others just stand there and look at the camera. Remsen’s move is very subtle and sometimes off-camera, but fans have noticed it.

“Adam’s Intro Move? My husband pointed out recently that Adam does something subtle with his left hand at every introduction. Anyone know what it is?” a Reddit user asked.

Fans didn’t have to wonder for long because the attorney and theater producer explained exactly what the move is. “My wife and son gave me good luck charms before I went out to LA, and I had the charms in that jacket pocket. I was patting the pocket to say hi to them,” he said. However, the Jeopardy! contestant did not share what the good luck charms were, but they are small enough to fit into a pocket.

“Thanks for solving the mystery for us! I thought it might be something similar,” the original poster replied.

“Great to have this answered! We wondered if it was something like that, like a Carol Burnett earlobe tug. You’re doing Memphis so proud! Hero,” another said. Other fans congratulated them and wished him luck on his game show journey.

Remsen is married to Louisa Koeppel, with whom he founded Quark Theatre company in 2015, along with Tony Isbell. Although not much is known about them, fans do know they share a son together. The couple did an interview on StoryCorps a few years ago about their relationship. Not much is known about their son.

The contestant has won $168,404 so far. He will play his ninth game on June 24. Remsen will also compete in the 2027 Tournament of Champions.

Remsen told executive producer Sarah Whitcomb-Foss in a video posted to the Jeopardy! Substack, “I certainly didn’t expect anything like this. I figured I would come in, hopefully win a game or two, but given the caliber of the contestants that you always see on Jeopardy!, it seemed a little presumptuous to expect anything like this.” Now, he has gotten to do the gesture numerous times.
