Agatha Christie’s Most Underrated Detectives Get a Modern Makeover in New BritBox Series

Agatha Christie fans have a new mystery to look forward to as BritBox unveils the first trailer for Tommy & Tuppence, a six-part drama bringing one of the Queen of Crime’s lesser-known detective duos into present-day London.
Starring Antonia Thomas and Josh Dylan, the series promises a fresh, modern spin on characters who have been solving mysteries in Christie’s novels for more than a century.
A very different side of Agatha Christie

Tommy and Tuppence first appeared in Christie’s 1922 novel The Secret Adversary. Unlike the more famous Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple, the pair’s stories often combine crime-solving with adventure, espionage and, importantly, their complicated relationship.
Across Christie’s books, Tommy and Tuppence grow from young investigators into an established detective partnership. Their final appearance came in Postern of Fate, published in 1973, when the pair are older and living a quieter life.
The new BritBox series takes those familiar characters and places them firmly in the modern world.
The official synopsis teases a partnership where romance and mystery collide, describing Tommy and Tuppence as a detective duo who fall in and out of love while tackling a series of intriguing cases.

Antonia Thomas, best known for The Good Doctor, plays Tuppence, portrayed as an energetic, determined woman who refuses to accept no for an answer.
Josh Dylan, who appeared in The Buccaneers and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, takes on Tommy — a meticulous and charming crime writer who has lost his passion for his work until Tuppence re-enters his life.
The cast also features Imelda Staunton as Tommy’s Aunt Ada, a retired private detective with a formidable personality.
Staunton’s character could provide one of the show’s most entertaining elements, particularly given her experience with beloved British franchises such as Harry Potter and Paddington.

The six-part Tommy & Tuppence will premiere on BritBox on September 15, 2026, deliberately timed to coincide with Agatha Christie’s birthday.
For longtime Christie fans, the series offers something particularly interesting: a chance to see two of her lesser-known creations finally receive a contemporary English-language television adaptation.
With modern London replacing Christie’s original settings, a new cast taking over the iconic characters and romance woven into the mysteries, Tommy & Tuppence could become one of BritBox’s next big crime dramas.
