American Idol Is Officially Returning For Season 25, Giving Millions Of Fans Another Chance To Witness Life-Changing Auditions, Unforgettable Performances, And Emotional Journeys That Have Defined The Show For More Than Two Decades. As anticipation builds, viewers are already speculating about the next breakout stars, surprise moments, and powerhouse voices that could take over the competition. With a brand-new season on the horizon, the countdown has begun for another chapter of one of television’s most beloved singing competitions.

ABC has renewed the series for Season 25 with auditions kicking off next month.

The renewal is not a surprise given that the previous season launched with its biggest season premiere in four years. What is somewhat surprising is Disney leaning into the fact that it is heading into Season 25, given that 15 of those seasons aired on Fox. ABC, which rebooted the show in 2018, for instance, referred to the most recent season as Season 9.

The most recent season starred Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Carrie Underwood as judges. Deadline understands that this trio is expected to return for Season 25, although their deals are still being worked out, as is usual for Idol. Ryan Seacrest has hosted since the start.

American Idol will premiere next year – it has largely premiered in February, although this year it debuted at the end of January – on ABC and when the live shows begin it will stream live on Disney+, as it did this year.

Auditions will kick off on August 25 with the traditional Idol Across America tour, a virtual search for singers taking place across the country.

American Idol is produced by Fremantle and Sony Pictures Television-backed 19 Entertainment with Megan Michaels Wolflick as showrunner.

This year, it introduced a number of changes to the show including bringing in live social voting for the first time, launched on a new night in Mondays rather than its traditional Sunday night bow and went all in on Nashville, Tennessee with Hollywood week moving to Music City.
