LeBron James has spent the past eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers. But as the four-time NBA champion approaches the final stages of his legendary career, speculation about a return to Cleveland refuses to disappear.
The latest round of rumors emerged after comments from former Cavaliers general manager David Griffin and continued discussion about what James will do in free agency this summer.
While no concrete negotiations have been reported, the idea of a third stint with the Cavaliers continues to intrigue NBA fans. After all, few stories would be more fitting than LeBron James finishing his career where it started.

James entered the NBA as the No. 1 overall pick by Cleveland in 2003.
He later returned to the franchise in 2014 and delivered on his promise to bring a championship to Northeast Ohio. That title remains one of the most memorable moments in league history.
The Cavaliers erased a 3-1 deficit against the 73-win Golden State Warriors to capture the 2016 NBA championship.
Former Cavaliers general manager David Griffin recently admitted that another reunion would not surprise him.

“There’s a big part of me that would be surprised if he doesn’t on some level,” Griffin said. “Northeast Ohio means so much to him.”
Griffin also acknowledged the appeal of seeing James complete his career in Cleveland.
“The theater of it excites me,” he added.

Brian Windhorst Says The Lakers Could Trade LeBron James For Cavs Star
Despite the emotional appeal, several hurdles remain. The Cavaliers would need to navigate salary cap limitations to make a reunion work. ESPN’s Marc Spears recently said James is “likely coming back” to Los Angeles.
Brian Windhorst has similarly indicated that James’ current focus is working out a deal with the Lakers. However, Windhorst thinks there might be a path to materialize this trade.
“There is a thought process in Los Angeles where they have to sign-and-trade LeBron James for Jarrett Allen. And I think if the Cavs are willing to do that, they can have LeBron,” Windorst said via ESPN Cleveland radio.
“Obviously, LeBron would have to want to sign with the Cavs, but if your pathway to paying LeBron the money is to trade Jarrett Allen for him, the Lakers would kill for Jarrett Allen. Kill for him. All right? They would do that deal in 17-tenths of a second.”
