Céline Dion returns to the stage in Paris after more than six years away
Céline Dion fought back tears as she returned to the concert stage in Paris on Saturday, September 12, marking her first full live performance in more than six years after stepping away from music to deal with a serious health condition.
Performing before a sold-out crowd at the Plenitude Arena in Nanterre, outside Paris, the Canadian superstar delivered an emotional comeback that had been eagerly anticipated by fans around the world.
Dion became visibly emotional during the performance as she reflected on the promise she had made to return to the stage.
“I made a promise. I made a promise to come back and to be back on stage. Here I am singing for you, and singing for me. Thank you so very much for your support, your patience. I am everything I am because you love me,” she told the audience.
She also described the moment as “amazing we are all together.”
The reaction from the crowd underscored the significance of her return. After years away from full-scale performances, Dion was once again standing in front of thousands of fans, doing what she had promised herself she would do.
A long-awaited return after a difficult health battle
Dion’s last full performance came during her Courage Tour in 2020. Her planned 2022 North American tour dates were later cancelled after she was diagnosed with stiff person syndrome, or SPS.
The rare neurological autoimmune disorder can cause severe muscle stiffness and painful spasms. The condition occurs when the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks healthy nerve cells, with symptoms varying in severity.
The diagnosis forced Dion to step away from the stage and concentrate on her health.
Since her diagnosis in 2022, Dion had appeared publicly in only three brief performance settings. She took part in a virtual charity event for healthcare workers during Covid, made her celebrated appearance at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics, and later performed at the end of a fashion show in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Her appearance at the Paris Olympics was particularly significant, giving fans a glimpse of the singer on stage again after years of uncertainty about her ability to perform.
The September 12 concert, however, represented a much bigger milestone: a complete concert and the beginning of a new run of performances in Paris. Reuters described the opening night as a triumphant return after her six-year absence.
Paris residency expands after overwhelming demand
Dion’s Paris residency was originally announced as a 10-show run, but strong demand led to the schedule being expanded.
The Plenitude Arena’s official information lists 16 performances in September and October 2026, with the wider residency extending into 2027. Across the full Paris run, Dion is scheduled for 26 nights at the venue.
The 2026 performances run from September 12 through October 17, followed by additional shows in May 2027, bringing the residency to May 29, 2027.
For Dion, the expanded schedule represents a remarkable return to the kind of sustained live performance that had become impossible during the most difficult period of her illness.
Millions of fans wanted to see her return
Dion first announced the Paris shows on her birthday at the end of March 2026. More than nine million fans reportedly attempted to buy tickets, with the initial allocation selling out within a matter of hours.
The extraordinary demand helped lead to additional dates being added to the schedule.
The Plenitude Arena has confirmed the 2026 dates, including performances on September 12, 16, 18, 19, 23, 25, 26 and 30, followed by October 2, 3, 7, 9, 10, 14, 16 and 17. Further performances are scheduled for May 2027.
The venue’s official listing describes the Paris concerts as a series of exclusive performances marking Dion’s return to the French stage.
A setlist built around Dion’s biggest hits
Fans can expect the residency to feature some of the songs that have defined Dion’s career.
Among the anticipated highlights are My Heart Will Go On, her Oscar- and Grammy-winning signature song, along with It’s All Coming Back to Me Now, The Power of Love and the French-language favorite Pour que tu m’aimes encore.
Her opening-night performance also included some of her best-known songs, with My Heart Will Go On among the emotional highlights of the evening.
For Dion, the return carries significance far beyond another concert tour. After years in which her health prevented her from performing regularly, she was finally back on a major stage in front of a full audience.
And as she told the crowd in Paris, she had made a promise to return.
On September 12, 2026, she kept it.
